Philanthropy
Being a Chi Omega means committing to helping others and the community around you. As Chi Omegas, we support the Make-A-Wish Foundation as our official philanthropy. We believe in the power of a wish. A few of our sisters have had wishes granted to their own siblings or cousins. This has allowed for us to see the direct impact that a wish can have on a child as well as his or her family.
At Ohio State, we are passionate about getting to know our wish kids. We hold a number of annual fundraising events, one of them being the Make-A-Wish Tailgate. We also host a few smaller events on campus, to raise awareness about the inspiring work of Make-A-Wish. We often have the opportunity to meet the children as they sometimes come to our events accompanied by parents and other family members.
In 2014-2015, we raised approximately $30,000 dollars for Make-A-Wish. The average cost of a wish is $8,000. This allows us to say that on average, we grant 3 wishes per year to children with life-threatening illnesses. Last year, we were awarded the Chris Greicius Award for raising over $100,000 in total. We are proud to make a difference in the life of a sick child and to provide hope for a family in need.
